US President Donald Trump to visit Japan May 25-28; heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions likely over coming week

US President Donald Trump is slated to visit Japan from Saturday, May 25, to Tuesday, May 28. President Trump and his wife will be Japan's first state guests following the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito on Wednesday, May 1. He is scheduled to watch sumo with Japanese President Shinzō Abe at the Kokugikan Sumo Arena in Tokyo on Sunday, May 26, and visit the emperor and empress on Monday, May 27. Trump and Abe are also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on Monday, with a state banquet that evening (local time). On Tuesday, Trump will visit the Yokosuka US Naval Base in Kanagawa prefecture.

A heightened security presence and associated traffic disruptions are likely over the coming week, particularly at locations on President Trump's itinerary.
