Some 70 protesters were reportedly clashing with security forces near the oil refinery in Zarqa on Saturday evening (local time), May 11, demanding the release of a person recently arrested. Demonstrators were reportedly burning tires and throwing stones at security forces, forcing the closure of Hashemite Road; security forces responded by firing tear gas to disperse the protesters.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected in the affected area over the coming hours.
