Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be Islamist militants, killed three people and reportedly burned approximately 100 houses in the village of Minhanha (Meluco district, Cabo Delgado province) on Sunday, May 5. The attack followed other, similar assaults reported in Macomia district (Cabo Delgado province) over recent days which left at least four people dead.

Further militant attacks are possible in Cabo Delgado province over the coming days and weeks.

Context

Ahlu Sunna Wa-Jamo/Ansar Al-Sunna (Al-Shabaab) is believed to be responsible for carrying out attacks against local businesses, government installations, and security forces in Cabo Delgado province since October 2017.
