Indonesia: Twin earthquakes hit off North Sumatra June 3

Twin earthquakes, measured at 5.5-magnitude and 5.8-magnitude, hit off the southern coast of Nias Island (North Sumatra province) on Monday, June 3. The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the earthquakes at 12:57 and 13:04 (local time) around 335 km (208 mi) northwest of Padang (West Sumatra province). The US Tsunami Warning System did not issue any tsunami alerts for the quakes. No reports of injuries or damage were available as of 13:40. Further earthquakes and aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days.
