Warning

Event

The Islamic Action Front (IAF) party is calling for a rally to be held in Amman on Friday, June 21, to denounce the Bahrain Conference planned in Manama on June 25-26, as well as the recent US peace plan for the Middle East. Protesters are expected to gather outside the Grand Husseini Mosque at approximately 19:50 (local time), after Friday prayers.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are expected along the march route.

Context

A two-day conference headed by US government officials will be held in Manama on June 25-26. The conference is named "Peace to Prosperity" and is aimed at encouraging investment in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as part of a new US peace plan for the Middle East. A Palestinian delegation will not be present to the conference and several Arab countries have announced their refusal to attend. Jordan is yet to respond to the official US invitation.

Advice

Individuals in Amman are advised to monitor situational developments, avoid all demonstrations, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
