Taiwan: EVA flight attendants extend strike June 29 /update 5

EVA Air flight attendants extended their ongoing strike on Saturday, June 29, after talks failed with the airline’s management. Earlier in the day members of the Taoyuan Flight Attendants Union (TFAU) had voted to end the strike but both sides were unable to reach a consensus after hours of negotiations. Talks are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, July 2. International flights have been canceled until at least Friday, July 12, and the airline is currently maintaining approximately 60 percent of its daily capacity. Additional flight disruptions are expected to continue through at least Tuesday until an agreement is reached. Demonstrations near the EVA headquarters in Taipei are also possible in the coming days.

Context

Flight attendants launched an indefinite strike on June 20, resulting in around 2000 flights being canceled and affecting over 200,000 passengers. EVA Air is the second largest Taiwanese carrier with 79 aircraft serving 64 destinations globally.
