A 5.9-magnitude earthquake was recorded approximately 24 km (15 mi) south of La Libertad at 23:54 (local time) on Tuesday, July 30. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake hit at a depth of 72.5 km (45 mi). No tsunami warning was immediately issued.

Aftershocks are possible in the affected region over the coming hours and days.
