Indonesia: 7.3-magnitude earthquake hits North Maluku Province July 14

A 7.3-magnitude earthquake strikes the South Halmahera Regency (North Maluku Province) on July 14; no tsunami warning immediately issued

A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck approximately 165 km (100 mi) south-southwest of Ternate (North Maluku province) at 18:10 (local time) on Sunday, July 14. The quake hit at a depth of 10 km (6 mi). Indonesian officials did not immediately issue a tsunami warning. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Multiple aftershocks have been recorded in the area with more possible in the coming hours or days.

Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor developments, prepare for aftershocks, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
