Indonesia: Tsunami alert issued after 6.9-magnitude earthquake recorded in Molucca Sea July 8

Event

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 6.9-magnitude offshore earthquake in the Molucca Sea on Monday, July 8, at approximately 00:10 (local time). The earthquake struck approximately 129 km (80 mi) west-southwest of Kota Ternate at a depth of 25 km (15 mi). There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties.

Indonesia's government has issued a tsunami warning; avoid all coastal areas. Aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days.
