Tropical Storm Danas is forecast to pass over the Ryukyu Islands, including Okinawa, on Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, bringing severe weather and a high storm surge. As of 13:00 (local time), the storm is located 113 km (70 mi) south of Ishigaki and 483 km (300 mi) southwest of Naha (Okinawa) and producing winds of 65 kph (40 mph) and waves of up to 6 m (20 ft). The storm is forecast to strengthen slightly on Friday as it moves north toward South Korea. The highest waves are expected on the southern shores of the islands. Heavy rain, a high storm surge, strong winds, flooding, and associated disruptions to transportation and power are possible. Heavy rain is also possible on Kyushu in the coming days.
