A reopening ceremony will be held at the DusitD2 hotel complex located in Nairobi on Wednesday, July 31, seven months following a terrorist attack, in which 21 people were killed. A heightened security presence along with localised traffic disruptions are expected as high-profile guests will attend the ceremony, at the 14 Riverside complex.

Context

Gunmen attacked the DusitD2 hotel complex in the Westlands area of Nairobi on January 15, detonating an explosive device in the parking lot, carrying out a suicide bombing in the foyer, and indiscriminately firing on individuals in the hotel complex. The terrorist group Al-Shabaab later issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack.
