Warning

Event

According to media reports, supporters of former President Almazbek Atambayev have called for a demonstration to take place in Bishkek, on Wednesday, July 3, to express support for Atambayev. Protesters are expected to gather outside the Media Forum. A heightened security presence and localized disruptions are possible in the area.

Context

A related protest was held in front of Atambayev's house on June 28.

This comes as parliamentarians in Kyrgyzstan voted to lift former President Atambayev's immunity on Thursday, June 27, which leaves Atambayev open to prosecution for pending corruption charges, which have previously been tabled due to immunity.

Advice

Individuals in Kyrgyzstan, particularly in Bishkek, are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
