Papua New Guinea: 6.2-magnitude earthquake strikes off West New Britain July 15

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck approximately 25 km (15 mi) north of Kandrian (West New Britain; Papua New Guinea), on Monday, July 15. No tsunami warning, advisory, watch, or threat was immediately issued by the US Tsunami Warning System.

Aftershocks are possible in the region over the coming hours and days.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from the windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
