Philippines: State of the Nation address in Metro Manila July 22

President Duterte to give State of the Nation address in Quezon City on July 22; heavy security presence and transportation disruptions expected

President Rodrigo Duterte is due to give a State of the Nation address at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City (Metro Manila) on Monday, July 22. The government has announced that 9162 security officials will be deployed in the vicinity, and over 5000 more officials will be deployed around Metro Manila on the day of the event. Anti-Duterte groups have called for protests, and police officials have said these will be allowed up to St. Peter Parish along Commonwealth Avenue. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out. Transportation disruptions are possible as road closures and parking restrictions may be put in place.
