Vanuatu: 6.0-magnitude earthquake hits Vanuatu July 2

Event

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit Vanuatu, some 35 km (22 mi) east-northeast of Luganville, early (local time) on Tuesday, July 2. The US Tsunami Warning System did not issue a tsunami warning, advisory, watch, or threat in connection with the earthquake. No casualties or damages were immediately reported.

Aftershocks are possible in the region over the coming hours and days.

Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor the situation, prepare for aftershocks, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
