Indonesia: Residual disruptions expected after power outage affects Greater Jakarta area August 4

Power outage affects much of the Greater Jakarta area August 4; transportation and business disruptions expected over the coming hours; flight operations unaffected

Warning

Event

A power outage caused widespread transportation and utility service disruptions across the Greater Jakarta area, including in parts of Jakarta, Banten, and West Java, on Sunday, August 4. The state-operated Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) electricity provider indicated the outage was caused by technical issues at Jakarta area power plants. The outage has caused service disruptions on commuter rail and MRT services, and many of the cities traffic lights had failed. Operations at Jakarta-area airports were reportedly unaffected.

Officials indicated that service had been restored to some 50 percent of affected households by 18:00 (local time), although several areas are still reporting outages as of 21:00. PLN stated service is expected to be fully restored by the end of the day on Sunday.

Lingering transportation and business disruptions are to be expected in Jakarta and its surroundings over the coming hours until power is restored.

Advice

Individuals in the Greater Jakarta area are advised to monitor developments, conserve power on battery-operated devices, prepare for transportation and business disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
