Indonesia: Tsunami alert issued after 6.8-magnitude earthquake recorded near Tugu Hilir (Banten) August 2

Event

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 6.8-magnitude off-shore earthquake approximately 105 km (65 mi) southwest of Tugu Hilir (Banten Province) on Friday, August 2. According to initial reports, the quake hit at around 19:00 (local time). Indonesia's government has issued a tsunami warning; avoid all coastal areas. Aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days.  

Advice

Individuals near the affected areas are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and to adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves from falling debris if indoors, to move away from windows, and not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
