Warning

Event

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops killed three Palestinian gunmen and wounded a fourth person as they attempted to cross the Israeli-Gazan border overnight (local time) from Saturday, August 17, into Sunday, August 18. The engagement notably came after multiple rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip toward Israel on Saturday; at least two projectiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system, while a third landed in an Israeli town near the Israeli-Gazan border. No casualties were immediately reported.

Similar incidents are to be expected over the near term amid heightened tensions along the Israeli-Gazan border.

Advice

Individuals in Israel and the Palestinian Territories are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations due to the risk of violence, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments. Seek immediate shelter in the event of a rocket attack.

Some Western governments advise their citizens against all travel to the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and areas near the Israeli-Lebanese, Israeli-Syrian, and Israeli-Egyptian borders.
