Authorities declared a “state of alert” in the Gaza Strip on the morning (local time) of Wednesday, August 28, after explosions were reported at two police checkpoints. According to the interior ministry, blasts targeted two police checkpoints on the night of Tuesday, August 27, resulting in at least two police officers being killed and several other Palestinians wounded. Palestinian officials have not released further details regarding the blasts and an Israeli military spokesperson said that no air raids had been conducted Tuesday night. An investigation into the attacks is ongoing and Hamas security forces throughout the Gaza Strip have been put on alert. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombings. Heightened security measures, including an increased security presence, are expected in Gaza in the coming hours.
