At least 11,000 residents have been evacuated from Achinsk district (Krasnoyarsk Krai region) as of Tuesday, August 6, following a series of explosions at an ammunition depot in the area that started on Monday, August 5. Officials have declared a state of emergency and issued evacuation orders for individuals living within 20 km (12 mi) of the storage facility. Air traffic was also suspended within 30 km (19 mi) of the site. At least eight people have been wounded by the explosions and recovery efforts are ongoing as of Tuesday morning (local time). Further evacuations and disruptions are possible in the coming hours. A heightened security presence is expected in the area.
