A passenger jet made an emergency landing in a field near Moscow’s Zhukovsky International Airport (ZIA) after hitting a flock of birds; at least 23 people injured

A passenger jet that left from Moscow's Zhukovsky International Airport (ZIA) was forced to make an emergency landing in a field 1 km (.5 mi) from the airport on the morning (local time) of Thursday, August 15. The plane collided with a flock of birds, causing a malfunction in both engines. At least 23 people have been hospitalized with injuries. Emergency personnel have deployed to the area and recovery efforts are ongoing.
