Russia: Two killed in explosion at military facility in Arkhangelsk August 8

Media reports indicate a rocket engine has exploded in a military facility in Nyonoksa (Arkhangelsk) in the morning (local time) of Thursday, August 8, killing two people and wounding four others. The incident reportedly occurred at a weapons testing site. A short-term rise in background radiation was recorded in Severodvinsk shortly after the explosion. Authorities have since assured that no harmful substances were emitted into the atmosphere and that the background radiation is now back to normal.
