US: Protest and counter protest scheduled in Portland August 17

Opposing groups are to hold protests in Portland (Oregon State) on August 17; avoid all protests

Warning

Event

A protest organized by out-of-state far-right groups is set to take place in Portland (Oregon state) on Saturday, August 17. Participants will gather at Waterfront Park and while the time of the event was not immediately available, it is expected to take place for a large part of the afternoon (local time).

At least eight counter demonstrations are scheduled in the city as a response, most of which will merge at one event at Waterfront Park as well.

The City has announced it is mobilizing additional security forces to minimize the risk of clashes between the two groups. The possibility of calling the National Guard is on the table.

Localized transportation disruptions, a heightened security presence, and business disruptions are to be anticipated. Clashes between protesters and between police and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Portland are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution.
