An emergency warning was issued in Tenterfield, New South Wales on Friday, September 6, due to an ongoing bushfire which prompted the evacuation of schools and engulfed several homes in flames. Winds of 60 kph (37 mph) have helped the fires spread. Authorities have warned that this is one of the worst fires on record for this time of year.

The Mayor of Lithgow stated that the fire was going in the direction of Springvale mine and is alert that Lithgow may also soon be affected.

Transportation and business disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the bushfires.
