Bahamas: Tropical Storm Warning issued September 13

Event

The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for a large part of the Bahamas on Friday, September 13. All the territory is concerned in the warning, with the exception of Andros Island. The tropical disturbance is expected to affect central and northwestern Bahamas on Friday. It is expected that the system will become a tropical cyclone in the coming days.

As of 05:00 (local time) on Friday, the system is located at approximately 24.6°N 75.2°W (map here), or 275 km (170 mi) from Great Abaco Island and is tracking northwest at 9 kph (6 mph). It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph (30 mph). The system is expected to move towards the eastern coast of Florida state (US).

Associated power outages and disruptions to transportation and business services are possible in areas forecast to be affected by the system over the coming hours and days.

Individuals in areas forecast to be affected by the system are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
