Tunisia: Flash flooding leaves one dead in Tunis September 10

Cities across Tunisia experienced flash flooding throughout the night (local time) of Tuesday, September 10, following sudden torrential rainfall on Tuesday afternoon. Floodwaters were as high as 1 m (3.3 ft) in Tunis, where one woman was found dead after being shocked by an electrical pole. Severe traffic disruptions were also reported in Tunis late on Tuesday as a result of heavy rain and flooding.

Residual disruptions, including road closures and transportation delays, are expected over the coming days.

Individuals in Tunisia are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
