Azerbaijan: Opposition calls for another protest in Baku October 19

The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) umbrella opposition group has called for another protest in Baku on Saturday, October 19, to demand the freedom of assembly. Organizers did not immediately announce a meeting time or location. However, a previous protest that took place in Baku on Tuesday, October 8, was held outside the mayor's office. Approximately 50 opposition activists participated in the October 8 protest, and unconfirmed reports say that police detained around 30 people. The October 19 protest may go ahead even without prior administrative approval.

A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions are expected near the protest site. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
