Heavy rains prompt nationwide weather alert and leave four dead; associated transportation and business disruptions expected

Warning

Event

Civil Protection authorities have issued an inclement weather yellow alert nationwide on Tuesday, October 15, due to heavy rains. The weather alert implies the mobilization of Civil Protection personnel to affected areas and those with high vulnerability to carry out evacuations and other emergency responses. As a result, classes have been suspended nationwide at all levels. Four people have been killed by the heavy rain.

More rain is forecast for the next several days. Flooding may continue in coastal and vulnerable areas.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions prior to setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. It is important to note that that walking or driving through floodwaters can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
