Clashes leave one Gazan dead as thousands of Palestinians protest along Israeli-Gazan border October 4; similar protests and clashes expected over the coming weeks

An estimated 6000 Palestinians protested along the Israeli-Gazan border on Friday, October 4, demanding an end to the Israeli blockade of Gaza and the right to return to lands from which their families fled during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Some Palestinian protesters threw explosive devices toward the border barrier; Israeli soldiers, for their part, retaliated with riot-dispersal means, shooting and killing one Palestinian and wounding some 54 others, including 22 by live gunfire.
Similar protests and clashes are to be expected along the Israeli-Gazan border over the coming weeks.
Context
Palestinians have staged weekly protests at the Israeli-Gazan border fence since March 30, 2018. Over 300 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 7000 have been wounded.
