Warning

Event

The government announced on Thursday, October 16, that the enthronement ceremony, initially scheduled for Tuesday, October 22, will be postponed to Sunday, November 10. The decision was made following the significant damages caused by Typhoon Hagibis on Saturday, October 12, in which at least 77 people have died.

Heightened security measures and transportation disruptions are expected in Tokyo ahead of the ceremony scheduled on Sunday, November 10. The official parade is expected to travel from the Imperial Palace (Chiyoda) to the Akasaka Palace (Minato Ward). Traffic disruptions and road closures are to be expected as a large number of foreign dignitaries are expected to visit the capital.

Heightened security measures will be implemented at both airports in Tokyo, likely causing significant delays at airports. Flights cancelation are possible.

Advice

Individuals in Tokyo, are advised to adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate crowded conditions, associated transportation disruptions, budget additional time to reach airports and confirm flight reservations, and expect heightened security presence during the enthronement period.
