The US Geological Survey recorded a 5.8-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Bougainville Island on Tuesday, October 29, at approximately 18:44 (local time). The earthquake struck 74 km (46 mi) west of Panguna at a depth of 69 km (43 mi). No tsunami warning has been issued. Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
