Tunisia: Kais Saied wins presidential run-off election October 13 /update 3

Event

According to state media, Kais Saied has won the Tunisian presidential run-off election on Sunday, October 13, defeating Nabil Karoui. Saied reportedly won over 70 percent of votes, according to several preliminary exit polls. Tunisia's electoral commission said voter turnout was 39.2 percent, nearly 12 percent higher than the turnout during the first round of elections held on September 15. 

A heightened security presence, as well as associated political protests and transportation disruptions, is possible following the elections.

Context

The presidential election seeks to replace President Beji Caid Essebsi, who died on July 25. Former speaker of parliament, Mohamed Ennaceur, is currently serving as interim president. The elections were set to take place on November 17 but were rescheduled due to Essebsi's sudden death.
