The Zanu-PF party has scheduled a rally in Harare on Friday, October 25, to protest US-imposed sanctions on certain political figures. Supporters plan to gather from 06:00 (local time) at Robert Mugabe Square and then march to the National Sports Stadium. Tens of thousands of party supporters are expected to participate in events at the stadium, where a football match and all-night concert is due to take place. The government has declared October 25 a public holiday.

A heightened security presence, as well as transportation and business disruptions, are likely in the capital throughout Friday. Counterprotests are possible.

The US has imposed sanctions on dozens of Zimbabwean officials, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa, regarding alleged human rights violations.
