Philippines: Ramon weakens to Tropical Depression November 20 /update 6

Event

Typhoon Ramon has weakened to a Tropical Depression as of 14:00 (local time) on Wednesday, November 20, after making landfall earlier in the day. The storm made landfall as a typhoon at approximately 00:20 in Santa Ana (Cagayan). Tropical Cyclone warnings remain in effect for most of Luzon as Ramon moves across the island. Light to moderate rainfall, with occasional heavy rain, is expected in Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, and northern parts of Ilocos Norte. Intermittent heavy rainfall is also forecast in Ilocos Sur, Abra, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Isabela, La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, and the rest of Ilocos Norte through Wednesday. 

According to the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Ramon is located near Aguinaldo (Ifugao) and is moving south at 20 kph (12 mph). The storm is expected to weaken into a Low Pressure Area within the next 24 hours.

Associated flooding, landslides, and wind-related damages are still possible in the affected areas. Transportation and power disruptions, including flight delays and cancelations, are also possible over the coming days.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
