Afghanistan: MIED detonation kills one civilian in Kabul December 19

Event

A magnetic improvised explosive device (MIED) killed at least one civilian and injured two others in Kabul's outskirts on Thursday, December 19. The incident was reported at around 09:40 (local time) on the boundary between Paghman District and Kabul City. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected in Kabul over the coming hours, days.

Taliban and Islamic State (IS) militants launch attacks on government personnel, security forces, and civilians in Afghanistan on a near-daily basis. Such assaults are, in part, intended to undermine the perceived capacity of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) - and the Afghan government more broadly - to adequately provide security in the wake of the withdrawal of most US-led NATO forces from the country
