Indonesia: 5.6-magnitude earthquake strikes off the coast of Sumatra December 16

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.6-magnitude earthquake around 116 km (72 mi) south-southwest of Sungai Penuh (Sumatra Island) on Monday, December 16. The quake hit at around 21:49 (local time) at a depth of 30 km (18.6 mi). No tsunami warning was immediately issued. Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
