At least five people are missing in North Sumatra province as of December 29, due to flash floods; rescue and recovery operations ongoing

The National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) confirmed on Sunday, December 29, that at least five people are missing due to flash floods in North Sumatra province. Emergency personnel are conducting search and rescue operations. Furthermore, at least nine houses and several bridges were completely washed away. The BNPB reported that the floods also triggered landslides.
The Indonesia Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) forecasts rain and wind to continue affecting North Sumatra province on Monday, December 30, through Tuesday, December 31. Associated flooding, landslides, transportation and business disruptions are anticipated, as well as disruptions to power and communication services, in the coming hours and days.
