At least six people were killed in flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rain in Riau as of Friday, December 20. According to the Riau Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), flooding has affected over 62,630 people across the Rokan Hulu, Kampar, Pelalawan, Kuantan Singingi, Indragiri Hulu, and Rokan Hilir districts. Authorities have issued an emergency alert for floods and landslides in the Kampar, Rokan Hulu, Pelalawan, and Indragiri Hulu districts, in effect until Tuesday, December 31.
Additional flooding, landslides, and associated business and transportation disruptions are to be expected in Riau over the near term.
