Authorities continue to investigate an explosion in Jakarta’s National Monument Park on December 3 that left two police officers wounded; situation is under control

An investigation into an explosion that wounded two police officers in the National Monument Park in Central Jakarta is ongoing as of 12:45 (local time) on Tuesday, December 3. According to initial reports, the two officers were exercising in the park on Tuesday morning when they noticed a suspicious object, which is now believed to have been a smoke grenade. Police officials said one of the officers picked up the object which then exploded in his hand. A cordon around the blast area was lifted around 10:30, along with vehicle checkpoints on nearby roads. According to media reports, traffic on Jl. Merdeka Utara has returned to normal.
