Suspected Israeli airstrikes hit the wider Damascus area on December 22; no casualties initially reported

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly conducted several airstrikes on targets near Damascus, and in the wider Rif Dimashq governorate at approximately 23:00 (local time) on Sunday, December 22, according to Syrian state media. Initial media reports indicate that the missiles originated from the Lebanese coast and the Golan Heights, and were targeting weapons depots, including in Aqraba. Local officials did not immediately announce any damages or casualties.
Similar airstrikes and retaliatory strikes are possible in the near term.
Context
Over the past year and a half, the Israeli military has struck more than 200 targets in Syria, many of which have been arms depots and military facilities allegedly receiving arms and fighters from Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah group.
