Indonesia: Death toll from flash flooding in Jakarta rises to 43 January 3 /update 2
Officials confirm at least 43 fatalities from flash flooding in the Greater Jakarta area and Banten as of January 3; additional rain forecast in the coming days

Indonesian officials announced on the morning (local time) of Friday, January 3, that at least 43 people have been killed by the recent flash flooding in the Greater Jakarta area and Banten. Bogor regency in West Java has the highest number of casualties, followed by Lebak regency (Banten), and East Jakarta. Over 409,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes and relocate to temporary shelters since heavy rain began impacting the region on Tuesday, December 31. Recovery efforts are ongoing and emergency and military personnel have deployed to the capital.
Additional heavy rain is forecast for Jakarta through Tuesday, January 7. Further flooding, landslides, and transportation and business disruptions are possible, as well as disruptions to power and communication services over the coming days.

Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
