Japan: 5.0-magnitude earthquake strikes Ibaraki prefecture January 14

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.0-magnitude earthquake approximately 4 km (2.4 mi) south-southeast of Jōsō (Ibaraki prefecture) on Tuesday, January 14. The quake occurred around 04:53 (local time) at a depth of 38 km (23 mi). There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties, and no tsunami warning has been issued.

Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
