5.2-magnitude earthquake strikes east of Guihing (Davao del Sur province) January 31; aftershocks possible over the near term

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.2-magnitude earthquake 7 km (4 mi) east of Guihing (Davao del Sur province; Mindanao Island) at approximately 19:18 (local time) on Friday, January 31. The quake struck at a depth of 38 km (24 mi). There were no immediate reports of injuries or infrastructure damage. Aftershocks are possible in the affected areas over the coming hours and days. No tsunami warnings were immediately issued.
