Syria: Unidentified aircraft conducted strikes in Al-Bukamal January 10

Event

Unidentified aircraft carried out multiple airstrikes targeting weapons depots and vehicles belonging to pro-Iranian militias near Al-Bukamal (Deir al-Zor province) during the early morning hours (local time) of Friday, January 10. According to local observers, the strikes triggered a significant explosion. Israel is believed to have conducted the operation; however, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has not commented on the incident as of Friday morning. There were no immediate reports of casualties from the strikes.

Similar airstrikes and retaliatory strikes are possible in the near term.

Context

Over the past two years, the Israeli military has struck more than 200 targets in Syria, many of which have been arms depots and military facilities allegedly receiving arms and fighters from Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah group.
