Italy: Women’s Day marches to be followed by nationwide general strike March 8-9

The Italian feminist movement "Non Una Di Meno" has called for marches and demonstrations to take place in urban centers nationwide in commemoration of Women's Day in Italy on Sunday, March 8. The day of protests will be followed by a nationwide general strike on Sunday and Monday, March 9, which will have significant impact on transportation services in major cities, including bus, tram, train, and air. The general strike is organized by public and private employees to protest gender discrimination and demand equal pay.

Trenord, Trenitalia, and Italo workers are set to go on strike nationwide from 00:00 to 21:00 (local time) on Monday.

Toll booth workers nationwide will strike from 22:00 on Sunday to 22:00 on Monday.

Airport workers and employees at local transport companies, including buses and metros, will also participate in the strike.

Significant transportation disruptions, including train and flight delays and cancelations, are to be expected. A heightened security presence is likely in the vicinity of any demonstration.
