US: Tropical disturbance brings flooding and strong winds to American Samoa February 18
Tropical disturbance hits much of American Samoa February 18; flooding, landslides, strong winds, and dangerous waves expected

On Tuesday, February 18, Tropical Disturbance 08F hit American Samoa, bringing winds of up to 111 kph (69 mph), heavy rain, and dangerous waves. The US National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings for the islands of Tutuila, Aunuu, Manua, and Swains. Schools have also been closed until the bad weather passes.
The Fiji Meteorological service has reported the risk of the tropical disturbance becoming a cyclone over the next 24 to 48 hours is moderate as the weather system moves southeast.

Individuals in American Samoa are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate lingering transportation and business disruptions, confirm flight reservations, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
