Warning

Event

Seismic activity was reported at Taal Volcano (Batangas province) on Tuesday, May 19. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported at least 15 volcanic earthquakes and weak streaming over a 24-hour period; however, the alert level remains at level one (the second on a five-tier scale). Local authorities have been advised to assess areas which had been previously evacuated following the volcano's eruption on January 12 for damage, and to review contingency measures should activity intensify. PHIVOLCS recommended that entry into the Taal Permanent Danger Zone remains prohibited and has warned of potential ashfall as a result of further activity.

Advice

Individuals present in the affected area are advised to avoid the vicinity of the volcano, monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders).
