Unidentified gunmen killed two police officers in an ambush outside of Polomolok (South Cotabato province) on Wednesday, April 29. At least seven assailants attacked four officers as they traveled through the village of Koronadal before fleeing the scene. Operations aimed at apprehending the attackers are ongoing as of Saturday, May 2. It is remains unclear whether the attack is linked to local militancy; however, police stated that the suspects could be associated with local criminal groups involved in illicit drug trafficking.

Further attacks are possible in the area over the near term.
