Storms kill 30 people in Lebap region as of April 27; further rain reported as of May 4

Storms in the Lebap region killed 30 people as of Monday, April 27, as heavy rain and storms reportedly continued on Monday, May 4. Reports indicate that much of the damage caused through April 27 has resulted in individuals in the area suffering food shortages and homelessness. Utilities in the region have also been impacted significantly by the storm. Although rains continued on May 4, forecasts indicate conditions will improve from Tuesday, May 5. 

Residual disruptions are possible in the affected area.

Individuals in Lebap are advised to monitor weather forecasts and to adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of water is enough to knock over an adult.
