Indian security forces engage suspected militants in Shopian district (Jammu and Kashmir territory) on June 7; operations ongoing

Suspected militants engaged Indian security forces conducting a cordon-and-search operation in Jammu and Kashmir territory on the morning (local time) of Sunday, June 7. Gunfire was reported in the Reban area of Shopian district and additional soldiers have deployed into the area as of 10:15. The operation is ongoing and details are still emerging. Mobile internet service disruptions are likely in the area, as well as other disruptions such as checkpoints and roadblocks.

Further engagements between security forces and militants in Shopian district and across Jammu and Kashmir territory are expected over the near term.
